The telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US leader Donald Trump lasted an hour and a half. The conversation was friendly, and neither leader wanted to hang up first.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov in a statement to journalists.
According to him, the telephone conversation on October 9 was quite substantive and sincere.
"Neither of them wanted to hang up first. As a result, both presidents put the receiver down at the same time," Ushakov said.
The Russian President's aide also revealed other issues discussed during the leaders' conversation.
He said that Trump sincerely congratulated Putin on his birthday, wishing him success and prosperity. The US leader also conveyed greetings from his wife, Melania Trump.
During the conversation, the war in Ukraine and possible peace talks were also discussed. Putin stated that Russia is ready to achieve long-term peace through political and diplomatic means, but emphasized that Moscow's position on military operations has not changed.
According to Ushakov, Putin touched upon the attacks that he claimed the Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out during the parliamentary elections in Russia, stating that Moscow would reconsider when talks would resume.
In addition, the presidents discussed humanitarian issues, including the situation in the city of Aleshki. It was agreed that relevant representatives would be in constant contact with Melania Trump's office.
Ushakov also announced that the date of the next meeting between Putin and Trump has not yet been discussed. However, he stated that both leaders are interested in participating in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China in November.
According to him, if the presidents attend the summit, they may have the opportunity to meet and exchange views.
