Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced his resignation on September 27. His resignation paves the way for early presidential elections.
Modern.az reports that Vučić signed his resignation letter.
He had previously announced his intention to leave office on September 11.
Vučić's resignation came after his visit to the United States. He stated that he was not obliged to leave his post before the start of the election campaign according to Serbian legislation, and that it was his personal decision.
Serbia's ruling Serbian Progressive Party nominated Vučić as a candidate for prime minister in the early parliamentary elections to be held on October 25.
Vučić was the president of Serbia since 2017 and was elected for a second term in 2022. According to the Constitution of Serbia, the same person cannot be elected to the presidency more than twice.
