Over the weekend, the Left Party announced its support for the candidacy of Andreas Norlen, a representative of the Moderate Party, for the position of speaker of parliament.
Now the speaker of the Riksdag (parliament) will offer to form the government to Ulf Kristersson, the leader of the right-wing political bloc and chairman of the Moderate Party, who came in second in the parliamentary elections, and the current prime minister.
However, the current situation does not mean that Andersson will not be able to become the new prime minister. As “Bloomberg” notes, if her rivals also fail to reach an agreement on the formation of the government, Andersson may have another chance to form a government.
In September, elections for a unicameral parliament were held in Sweden. The opposition center-left alliance, which won 176 seats, won the elections. The alliance includes the Social Democratic Workers' Party, the Left Party, the Green Party, and the Center Party.
