Azerbaijan holds a special place in Iran's neighborhood policy.
Modern.az reports with reference to APA that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated this during his meeting with Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev.
According to the official information portal of the Iranian President, Pezeshkian touched upon the dynamics of the development of relations between the two countries and emphasized the importance of making maximum use of the existing opportunities for further deepening and expanding ties between Tehran and Baku.
“We are relatives and brothers. We must further expand relations and ties between the two countries by using existing opportunities and neighborhood advantages,” the Iranian President said.
Pezeshkian noted that there are extensive relations between Azerbaijan and Iran in scientific, cultural, economic, political and security fields, and joint efforts are required to further strengthen them.
The Iranian President emphasized that the common border should not be an obstacle to the development of relations between the two countries, but should create an opportunity for expanding cooperation.
Pezeshkian expressed his satisfaction with the agreements reached during Shahin Mustafayev's visit in meetings with Iran's ministers of roads and urban development, as well as energy, and noted the importance of accelerating their implementation.
“We hope that the agreements reached will enter the implementation stage as soon as possible with the serious attention and efforts of the parties,” he said.
Pezeshkian called the development of transport and communication routes one of the main means of communication between the two countries and peoples. According to him, road, air and rail links between Iran and Azerbaijan should be further developed.
During the meeting, Shahin Mustafayev also stated that Azerbaijan is determined to further develop relations with Iran. He emphasized the importance of monitoring the implementation of the agreements reached, as well as developing transport and communication routes.
