Cargo turnover along the Middle Corridor has increased sevenfold since 2020, which requires new infrastructure.
Modern.az reports that Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated this on the “Open Air” program.
According to him, the Georgian government is actively working in this direction.
“These are the development of Anaklia port, the potential expansion of Poti port, aviation infrastructure, expressways, and the modernization of the railway,” the head of government said.
Emphasizing that they do not consider the TRIPP route a rival, Kobakhidze said: “Cargo turnover in the Middle Corridor has increased so much that there is a need for diversification. We do not think that the TRIPP route or any other route will create a serious problem for the traditional routes passing through Georgia.”
He noted that, according to the plan, all main and express roads should be built by 2031. The modernization of the railway will increase both the speed of trains and cargo turnover.
