The US authorities have imposed restrictions on 17 ships and a number of companies involved in the transportation and sale of Iranian oil and petroleum products.
Modern.az reports that this is stated in the statement of the US Treasury Department.
"The Ministry is imposing restrictions against 17 ships belonging to the "shadow fleet" used to transport millions of barrels of Iranian oil, fuel and petroleum products to various markets in South and East Asia. Among them are tankers owned by companies registered in China, Great Britain and the Marshall Islands," the statement said.
According to the Washington administration, sanctions have also been imposed against approximately 20 companies related to Iran's petrochemical industry. Among them are companies registered in Great Britain, India, Iran, China, UAE, Turkey and the Marshall Islands.
"Today's actions effectively neutralize a large part of the remaining network of Iran's "shadow fleet"," the US Treasury Department said.
A representative of the ministry also told journalists that Iran has almost lost its ability to conduct oil trade.
