Sagal Abdi-Vali, of Somali origin, won the by-election in the UK and was elected as a member of parliament. She will replace former Prime Minister Keir Starmer in the Holborn and St Pancras constituency.

According to the results of the vote, Labour Party candidate Sagal Abdi-Vali collected 12,292 votes (45.17%). Green Party candidate Zak Polanski came in second with 8,928 votes (32.81%). Conservative Party representative Euan Cameron was supported by 1,922 voters (7.06%).

According to the information, Abdi-Vali, who was born in Somalia, came to Great Britain as a child refugee in the 1990s, fleeing the civil war.

She has volunteered for more than 10 years, served on the boards of trustees of local charities, and worked in municipal administration. She also served on the governing bodies of two schools.

Abdi-Vali has been leading the local council of the Camden administrative district of London since May 2026. She was the first black woman to be elected to this position. Prior to that, since 2022, she served as a council member and headed Camden's housing department.

During her tenure, she managed to attract more than 670 million pounds sterling to improve the social housing stock in the district.

Abdi-Vali stated that her main goal in parliament is to fight against homelessness
