Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is expected to visit Azerbaijan in the coming weeks.

Modern.az reports that "Euronews" has released information about this.

According to the information, the visit is planned to take place in May-June.

It is noted that the visit is carried out within the framework of ongoing political and economic cooperation.

One of the main pillars of relations between the two countries is the energy sector. Azerbaijani gas is transported to Italy via the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP). This pipeline is part of the Southern Gas Corridor, which connects the Caspian region with Europe.

According to Luca Schieppati, Managing Director of TAP, in a statement to “Euronews”, more than 47.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas have been delivered to Italy via the pipeline since it began commercial operations.

He stated that, according to data from Italy's SNAM company, gas transported via TAP met approximately 16% of the country's total gas demand in 2025.

Schieppati added that in total, more than 57 billion cubic meters of gas have been transported to Europe via TAP. This has contributed to the diversification of supply routes and increased the resilience of Europe's energy system.

It was noted that Italy is the main buyer of Azerbaijani gas transported via TAP, and the country is considered one of the main entry points for gas entering the European market.
