Human beings must be at the center of the urbanization process.

Modern.az reports that this was stated by Nga Kor Ming, President of the UN-Habitat Assembly, in an interview with media representatives within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku.

According to him, it is possible to build large buildings, but if people are left out, living in pain and hardship, it loses its meaning. A good city is a city where people live happily, feel safe and stable.”

Nga Kor Ming noted that the World Urban Forum is an important platform for forming unity and consensus among countries. He emphasized that the forum should not be limited to discussions, but should be remembered for a concrete action plan and measurable results.

The Assembly President reminded that the New Urban Agenda is a 20-year global plan, stating that 10 years of this process have already passed and the implementation of agreed targets should be the main priority in the coming decade.

“WUF13 was successfully organized in Azerbaijan and this forum, attended by more than 40,000 participants, is the largest World Urban Forum ever held.”

Nga Kor Ming also added that the selection of housing as the main agenda in this year's forum is not accidental:

“A house is built with bricks and concrete, but a home is built with hope and dreams. Housing should be accessible, connected, sustainable and create a healthy community environment. Only then can we call it not just a house, but a home,” he noted.
