The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, stated that closing borders is not an effective way to prevent the spread of the Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Modern.az reports that this was stated at a press conference held in Kinshasa.

According to him, such restrictions can only temporarily slow down the spread of the virus and give the authorities a few days: "But it does not solve the problem as a whole."

The head of the WHO emphasized that the main tools in the fight against the disease remain sanitary measures, the operational work of medical personnel, and support directly at the site of the epidemic.

Earlier, the Ugandan authorities temporarily closed the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo due to the risk of the spread of the Ebola virus. Rwanda also took similar measures, while Zambia strengthened health monitoring.
