It is impossible to stop the process of decreasing water level in the Caspian Sea, the main approach is only to adapt to these changes.

Modern.az reports that Aliagha Azizov, Deputy Chairman of the State Service for Control over Water Resources of Azerbaijan, stated this in an interview with journalists.

According to the expert, studies show that the level of the Caspian Sea has been continuously decreasing since the mid-1990s. The main reasons are climate change, reduced precipitation in the basin, increased evaporation due to rising temperatures, and reduced water flow from rivers into the sea.

Aliagha Azizov noted that the water level in the Caspian Sea, the world's largest enclosed water basin, has decreased by approximately 1 meter in the last 5 years, 1.5 meters in the last 10 years, and 2.5 meters in the last 30 years. Currently, the annual decrease in the sea is 20-30 centimeters, which is many times higher than the increase in the level of the World Ocean.

According to the Ministry of Ecology of Kazakhstan, long-term forecasts predict that the level of the Caspian Sea will change according to two scenarios. Based on calculations prepared by the Ministry of Ecology of Kazakhstan and Kazhydromet, in an optimistic scenario, the level could drop to -29.8 meters by 2030 and to -32.4 meters by 2050.

According to the pessimistic scenario, the level of the Caspian Sea could drop to -30 meters in 2030 and to -34 meters in 2050.
