“South Korea owes its current existence to approximately 20,000 Turkish servicemen who participated in the Korean War.”

Modern.az reports that South Korean President Lee Jae-myung stated this while speaking about relations with Turkey.

The President emphasized that Turkey is a brotherly country for the Korean people.

“In the eyes of our people, Turkey is a brotherly country that unites us with blood ties. Today, we owe the existence of the Republic of Korea to approximately 20,000 Turkish servicemen who fought shoulder-to-shoulder with us for our freedom and peace thousands of kilometers away, in lands whose names they didn't even know,” the head of state noted.

Lee Jae-myung also spoke about expanding cooperation between the two countries in the fields of energy and defense industry.

According to him, a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in financing the construction of nuclear power plants has been signed. Also, the support for the participation of South Korean companies in a new nuclear power plant project in Turkey was discussed.

The President stated that new directions of cooperation in the defense industry will be determined based on the results achieved in Turkey's “ALTAY” tank project.

In addition, it was agreed to explore opportunities for companies from both countries to access markets in third countries through the expansion of joint production and technological cooperation.
