Armenian Parliament Speaker Ruben Rubinyan stated that the Azerbaijani side informed the Armenian side after determining that its serviceman was missing and could have crossed into Armenian territory.
Modern.az reports, citing “Armenpress”, that Rubinyan said this on October 6 at a parliamentary session in response to a question from Marianna Gahramanyan, a deputy from the opposition “Strong Armenia” faction.
The deputy requested a political assessment of the incident reportedly involving an Azerbaijani serviceman in Shaki village. She claimed that the serviceman entered a house, shot a woman, and children were also harmed, stating that the incident negatively affected the peace process.
Rubinyan called the incident a crime, noting that the serviceman had been charged and arrested.
The Parliament Speaker positively assessed Azerbaijan's informing about the missing serviceman:
“Is it good that the Azerbaijani side informed the Armenian side as soon as it discovered that its serviceman had disappeared and suspected that he might have crossed into Armenian territory? Yes, this is very good. If there were no peace, this would not have happened.”
Rubinyan stated that there had been previous cases where servicemen from both sides crossed into the other's territory, and the sides informed each other and returned those individuals.
Regarding the Shaki incident, he differentiated it from previous incidents, citing that a crime had been committed.
