Police in Lahore, Pakistan, have opened a criminal case after a 20-year-old Azerbaijani citizen filed a complaint of gang rape.
Modern.az reports, citing local media, that law enforcement agencies have identified three suspects in connection with the incident and are conducting an operation to apprehend them.
According to the police, the young woman arrived in Pakistan about two weeks ago for business matters. Her application states that two women invited her to a cafe. There were also three other men in the cafe.
Later, these individuals were taken together to an apartment. According to the victim, she was given a drink there, which was suspected to contain an unknown, consciousness-impairing substance. After this, three men sexually assaulted her.
According to the woman's testimony, the violence continued throughout the night. After this, the suspects left her near the airport and fled the area. It is also reported that the woman's two expensive mobile phones, including an “iPhone,” were stolen.
The criminal case was registered at the Defence C police station under articles of the Pakistan Penal Code that provide for responsibility for gang rape and causing harm by using poisonous or consciousness-impairing substances.
Deputy Superintendent of Police for investigation, Syed Zeeshan Raza, stated that all suspects have already been identified.
Police also confiscated the car believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.
The investigation is currently ongoing, and law enforcement agencies are carrying out search operations to apprehend the suspects.
