The projects being implemented today in Kalbajar are not only a process of construction and reconstruction, but also represent the restoration of historical justice and the return of life to native lands.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Bashir Hajiyev, the special representative of the President of Azerbaijan in Kalbajar district, at the event titled “Lachin and Kalbajar: the path from urbicide to post-conflict reconstruction” within the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku.
He noted that after the 44-day Patriotic War, following the liberation of our lands from occupation, large-scale and purposeful restoration and construction works are being carried out in the Karabakh and East Zangazur economic regions based on the instructions of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan:
“These projects ensure the sustainable settlement of the population, support the restoration of economic activity, and create a strong foundation for these territories to become highly developed regions.
At the same time, the ongoing processes are of particular importance in terms of eliminating the destruction, vandalism, and damage to the ecological environment and cultural heritage committed in our territories during the occupation.”
The special representative emphasized that in the post-conflict period, Kalbajar district was one of the most contaminated areas with mines and other explosive ordnance:
“For this reason, in the initial stage of the restoration and construction processes carried out in the district, mine clearance and neutralization of unexploded ordnance were carried out as the most important step.
Bringing the territories to a safe state is of great importance both for the construction of new settlements and infrastructure, and for ensuring the safe and dignified return of former internally displaced persons to their native lands.”
