Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said that "Russian agents" around him played a role in his decision to return to Georgia.
Modern.az reports that Saakashvili spoke about this during the trial held at the Tbilisi City Court.
According to him, a person in his inner circle constantly persuaded him to return to Georgia and later passed his information to the authorities.
"Russian agents were operating around me. One person constantly urged me to return to Georgia," the ex-president said.
Saakashvili noted that his first attempt to return to Georgia in 2020 was also unsuccessful. He claimed that the person passed his coordinates to the authorities, and as a result, a danger signal was announced in Batumi.
The ex-president added that during his secret return to Georgia in October 2021, the person who was supposed to meet him gave the information to the authorities two hours later.
However, Saakashvili did not disclose the names of those individuals.
