US President Donald Trump announced that Iran wants to meet with Washington and that negotiations between the parties have begun.
Modern.az reports that Trump said Iran had requested a meeting through both intermediaries and direct channels.
"They want to meet and we are meeting. I think good results can be achieved. If it weren't for the measures we took, Iran would not talk to us," the US President said.
Trump noted that oil prices have fallen sharply today and there are good opportunities to reach an agreement with Iran.
"There's a great chance for something good to happen. If it doesn't happen, we'll go back to the measures we saw two days ago. Iran has suffered serious damage in the last 14 days," he added.
The US President claimed that Tehran appealed to Washington, asking to stop military operations and start negotiations.
"They very politely asked us: 'Please stop. Let's meet,'" Trump emphasized.
