On the night of September 10, the seaport located in Makhachkala, Republic of Dagestan, Russia, was attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Modern.az reports that, according to UNIAN agency, a UAV strike was recorded in the port area.
Makhachkala International Sea Trade Port is Russia's only year-round non-freezing deep-water port in the Caspian Sea. The port is engaged in the transportation and loading of oil, grain and other cargo.
The base of the Russian Caspian Flotilla is located near the port.
Fyodor Shukin, acting head of Dagestan, confirmed that the seaport was damaged as a result of the attack by Ukrainian UAVs on Makhachkala.
According to him, fires broke out in the infrastructure of Makhachkala port as a result of the attack.
The Russian defense industry company “Fire Point” announced that the Makhachkala seaport was hit by FP-1 UAVs by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
According to the company, strikes were recorded in the port area, after which a fire broke out. It was stated that the consequences of the attack are being clarified.
Makhachkala has previously been subjected to attacks by Ukrainian UAVs. It is reported that the Makhachkala oil refinery in the city was also targeted.
UNIAN writes that Ukraine has recently intensified long-range UAV strikes on Russian military and infrastructure facilities, including oil refineries, military industrial enterprises, airfields and logistics facilities.
In August, Ukrainian UAVs reportedly hit oil refineries in Russia's Yaroslavl and Bashkortostan regions.
