The latest geopolitical processes around Ukraine and possible peace conditions are being widely discussed in the international arena. Russia's alleged new peace proposals and the toughening of conditions are in the focus of experts. Experts believe that these provisions can radically change the future fate of the conflict and the security architecture in the region.
Russian political scientist Darya Grevtsova, in a statement to Modern.az regarding the issue, said that it is claimed that the conditions for a peace agreement in Ukraine have been significantly worsened:
"Everyone in Ukraine claims that Uitkoff and Kushner have brought significantly tougher conditions for a peace agreement than before, Moscow has tightened its demands. Firstly, Moscow demands the official recognition of the status of the territories under its control in the Ukrainian Constitution and Kyiv's renunciation of the right to return these lands by military means. Secondly, Ukraine's membership in NATO must be excluded: at the alliance's summit, it must be officially declared that the country will not be admitted to the organization in the future, and the Constitution must enshrine Ukraine's status as a non-aligned, neutral state. Thirdly, restrictions must be placed on armaments, especially long-range missiles, so that one or two years after the establishment of peace, Ukraine cannot suddenly attack Moscow by accumulating a huge arsenal on its territory - according to the scenario of the strike once delivered by North Korea on South Korea."
She noted that Russia has put forward exactly such harsh conditions to Ukraine, and the legal consolidation of these provisions is an important condition:
"All these clauses must be signed and enter into force only after elections are held in Ukraine and a legitimate president - this could be Zelensky or another person - is elected, so that the new head of state cannot subsequently cancel the established obligations. This also includes the elimination of the root causes of the conflict - allowing the use of the Russian language, the activities and worship of the Orthodox Church, as well as the termination of the activities of all nationalist groups of the "Azov" type so that they do not pose a threat to the peaceful population of Ukraine and Russia.
As for the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, according to the conditions, the facility must remain under Russia's full control, and external structures must not be allowed to manage it; however, Moscow is ready to supply half or the required volume of the generated electricity to Ukraine. All these conditions of the peace agreement must also be officially confirmed at the UN level."
