The number of deaths from the rare unvaccinated virus "Bundibugyo" in the Democratic Republic of Congo has exceeded 130.
Modern.az reports that the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is currently facing one of the most difficult health crises in its history. The virus, first discovered in the country in 1976, has returned. The "Bundibugyo" strain of the Ebola virus is extremely dangerous.
The virus has spread to Kampala, the capital of neighboring Uganda, raising the alarm level in the region to its highest.
The country's geographical structure and deep socio-economic crisis contribute to the spread of the epidemic. Poverty has reached its peak in a country where more than 60% of its land is covered by dense forests. Bats, monkeys, and porcupines meet 80% of the food needs of the rural population.
Former Minister of Health Eteni Longondo said that people have no choice but to hunt these animals to survive, and this causes viruses to spread rapidly among people.
