The Council of the European Union has expanded the scope of the sanctions mechanism applied against Iran.
Modern.az reports with reference to foreign media that, according to the new decision, all natural and legal persons (organizations) involved in Iran's actions that prevent the free passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz may be subject to restrictions. According to EU officials, Tehran's activities in the strait pose a direct threat to global maritime trade.
For individuals to be included in the sanctions list, entry to the EU territory will be prohibited and their assets in Europe will be frozen. In addition, EU companies are strictly prohibited from providing any financial funds or resources to the figures on the sanctions list.
