Azerbaijan consistently strengthens its position as one of the main transport hubs in the region, ensuring reliable transit along the North-South and East-West international corridors.
Modern.az reports that President Ilham Aliyev stated this during his speech at the restricted meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State held in Turkmenbashi.
The head of state emphasized: “In the first half of 2026, the volume of transit traffic through Azerbaijan increased by 10 percent, reaching approximately 8 million tons. In the medium term, our goal is to bring cargo transportation through Azerbaijan along the East-West and North-South routes to 15 million tons in each direction.”
