Aleksandr Plushenko, son of famous Russian figure skater Evgeni Plushenko, also known as “Gnom Gnomych”, will represent Azerbaijan in figure skating competitions from now on.

Modern.az reports that "RIA Novosti" disseminated information about this, citing sources.

It was stated that at the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Russian Figure Skating Federation, 13-year-old Aleksandr Plushenko was given official permission to change countries.

It was noted that after receiving a special document from the International Skating Union, he will be able to compete under the flag of Azerbaijan in international competitions. However, it will be possible for the athlete to participate in competitions on behalf of our country starting from next season.

It should be noted that Aleksandr Plushenko is the son of famous producer Yana Rudkovskaya and Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko. Evgeni Plushenko became an Olympic champion for the first time in 2006, winning a gold medal in the individual competition at the Winter Olympic Games in Turin, Italy. In 2014, he became an Olympic champion for the second time by winning the team competition at the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia
