US President Donald Trump compared his country's military losses during the confrontation with Iran to those in the Iraq war.
Modern.az reports that Trump stated 18 American soldiers died in the confrontation with Iran.
“We lost 18 wonderful people in the confrontation with Iran. Even the loss of one person is too much,” the US President said.
Trump stated that the US lost approximately 4,500 soldiers in Iraq, and in his opinion, the results achieved there cannot be compared with those currently achieved in the confrontation with Iran.
The US President also touched upon the fight against ISIS in Iraq, saying that the terrorist organization was defeated during his first presidency and that American forces should have withdrawn from Iraq earlier.
According to Reuters, 18 American soldiers have died since the US launched “Operation Epic Fury” against Iran in February 2026. Seven of them lost their lives in Iraq.
The US also withdrew its last military forces from Iraq on September 30. This ended the US military presence in Iraq, which began in 2003 and continued in various stages.
