Russia's accession to the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) would be an understandable and expedient step.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
According to him, Moscow has not yet received an official invitation. However, the issue can be discussed in contacts with the Kazakh side.
"As for Russia's participation in the Organization of Turkic States, you know that there are a number of regions in Russia whose peoples are Turkic by historical origin," Peskov said.
The Kremlin spokesman emphasized that it should be about the Russian Federation as a whole joining the work of the organization, not individual regions.
It should be noted that earlier, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed inviting Russia to the OTS.
