Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that an investigation commission will be established regarding the Armenian Apostolic Church and that he will personally ensure the Catholicos's resignation.
Modern.az reports, citing local media, that Pashinyan spoke about this at a briefing held after the government meeting.
According to him, as a result of the commission's work, legislative initiatives should be prepared with the aim of “ending the seizure of the church” and “giving governance to the faithful.”
Pashinyan claimed that the crisis in the Armenian Apostolic Church exists regardless of the government's will. He said that the government's recently published controversial report on the church was prepared solely based on media materials.
“The state will use all means of influence for the Catholicos of All Armenians to vacate the throne,” the prime minister stated.
Pashinyan also used harsh words about the Catholicos: "Who is he to sit in our most sacred place? He is nop...”
