The extraordinary hospitality and leadership of the Azerbaijani government and people played an important role in the successful holding of this forum.
Modern.az reports that these thoughts were expressed by UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed at the official closing ceremony of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku.
She stated that Azerbaijan hosted the forum at a high level.
Amina Mohammed also emphasized that Azerbaijan brought urbanization issues to the global agenda by declaring 2026 as the World Urbanization Year:
“Baku, along with ancient city traditions, also demonstrates an example of renewal and sustainability. Climate change and urbanization pressures cause more frequent and intense impacts around the world.”
The UN Secretary-General noted that the heavy rains and storms observed in Azerbaijan in recent days are a clear reminder of the resilience, determination and unity that we must demonstrate against new realities:
“I express my deep gratitude to the employees of the Azerbaijani side, the UN-Habitat team and the entire UN system for their unwavering loyalty and professionalism in the successful holding of the forum,” A. Mohammed noted.
