The destruction of cities and the forced displacement of people must be prevented
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Paula Gaviria, UN Special Rapporteur on the right to housing, during her speech at the panel session titled "Housing at the center of post-crisis recovery and reconstruction" within the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku.
She noted that it is difficult to talk about the future if we do not invest in prevention:
"Urban crises are the result of human rights violations and the weakening of respect for international humanitarian law.
She stated that this situation is currently clearly observed in Gaza, Syria, and Ukraine.
P. Gaviria also added that the reconstruction process should not be limited to restoring the previous situation:
"Reconstruction should create safer, more inclusive, and sustainable communities. People should be able to live with dignity and confidence in the future."
