The State Agency for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control rejected "Aztelekom" LLC's appeal regarding the increase in the minimum internet speed and the corresponding tariff.
Modern.az reports that information technology expert Osman Gunduz made a statement about this.
It was noted that currently, more than 90 percent of users benefit from internet packages with speeds of 100 Mbit/s and lower. Therefore, it was emphasized that increasing the minimum speed is not necessary for all subscribers and that it is important to create choice options for users.
It should be recalled that on August 15, 2024, changes were made to internet tariffs. At that time, the minimum package was switched from a speed of 40 Mbit/s and a tariff of 18 manats to a speed of 100 Mbit/s and a tariff of 25 manats. As a result, the minimum monthly payment increased by approximately 40 percent.
The expert added that while ensuring quality and high-speed internet across the country is important, this should not be done at the expense of increasing the minimum tariff for everyone. Protecting citizens' financial access to the service and their ability to choose between different packages was cited as one of the main conditions.
