Azerbaijan has imported aluminum foil from Armenia.
Modern.az reports that this was announced by Armenian Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan in a conversation with journalists.
The minister did not disclose the volume of aluminum foil exported to Azerbaijan. According to the information, it is about aluminum foil produced at the ARMENAL plant operating in Armenia. The plant was established in 2000, and since 2003 it has been wholly owned by the Russian company RUSAL. According to RUSAL, ARMENAL is the only enterprise producing aluminum foil in the Caucasus and Central Asia.
ARMENAL produces aluminum foil of various thicknesses, aluminum strips, and foil used for making food containers. The current annual production capacity of the enterprise is stated to be 40 thousand tons. Aluminum foil is not limited to the ordinary kitchen material used in daily life. This product is mainly used for packaging and storing food products, making various types of food containers, as well as in pharmaceutical and other industrial fields.
According to RUSAL, the foil produced by ARMENAL is used in the food and pharmaceutical industries, the construction sector, and retail trade. The plant also produces foil in rolls for the production of semi-rigid aluminum food containers.
Especially thin aluminum foil is one of the important materials in the packaging of food and medicinal products. ARMENAL started producing foil with a thickness of 7-9 microns in 2009. It was stated that the plant's 7-micron product is intended for packaging purposes and its compliance with food and medicinal product packaging standards has been certified.
Since 2016, the enterprise has also been carrying out serial production of foil used for making food containers.
Azerbaijan's import of aluminum foil from Armenia is one of the notable points against the background of expanding economic ties between the two countries. Although the Armenian Minister of Economy's statement confirmed that the product was exported to Azerbaijan, the amount of product sent and the value of the deal were not disclosed.
In this regard, the main known fact at present is that Azerbaijan is among the countries that buy aluminum foil from Armenia. Products manufactured by ARMENAL have been exported to various foreign markets for many years. According to RUSAL, the enterprise's products are exported to various regions, including North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
