In September 2026, Baku hosted a number of international political, economic, sports and climate events.
Modern.az reports that during this month, international platforms in various fields were organized in the capital, and numerous foreign representatives gathered in Baku.

From September 7-11, Baku hosted the UN Climate Week – Climate Week 4.
The event discussed issues related to combating climate change, preparing transparency reports, climate finance, and reducing emissions.
Within the framework of Climate Week, practical working groups and technical seminars were organized to support the preparation of Biennial Transparency Reports (BTR) that developing countries must submit by December 31, 2026.
The event also focused on maintaining institutional links between the COP29, COP30, and COP31 presidencies and accelerating the implementation of previous decisions. Initiatives related to reducing methane and other super-pollutant emissions, mobilizing climate finance, and developing sustainable agriculture were also discussed.
In addition, representatives of international organizations, governments, financial institutions, the private sector, and entrepreneurs operating in the green economy sector participated in the event.
From September 24-26, Baku hosted the “Formula 1” Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The jubilee – 10th race weekend organized at the Baku City Circuit was remembered for intense competition and stages where the Safety Car was on the track.
The winner of the main race, consisting of 51 laps, was British driver George Russell of the “Mercedes” team. Starting from pole position, Russell finished the race first, securing his third victory in the 2026 season.
“Red Bull” Dutch driver Max Verstappen took second place, and his teammate Isak Hacar took third place. Thus, “Red Bull” finished the Azerbaijan Grand Prix with two drivers on the podium.
The II Azerbaijan International Investment Forum held in Baku on September 25-26 was also one of the main international events of the month.
Organized by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and AZPROMO, the forum discussed issues such as investment opportunities, transition to a green economy, renewable energy, the Middle Corridor, artificial intelligence, and attracting foreign capital for the reconstruction of Karabakh and East Zangazur.
A total of 11 important documents were signed within the framework of the forum. Among them, the Final Investment Decision for the full-scale development of the “Absheron” gas-condensate field held a special place. The document was signed between SOCAR, “TotalEnergies” and XRG/ADNOC with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev.
The event was attended by heads of international financial institutions, global investors, and representatives of multinational companies. The forum served as a platform for presenting Azerbaijan's investment opportunities to international business circles and establishing new cooperation ties.
On the last day of the month, the “ADEX 2026” – 6th Azerbaijan International Defence Exhibition started its activities in Baku.
The fact that the 5th pavilion was used for the first time at the exhibition held at the Baku Expo Center indicated the expansion of the event's scale.
More than 270 companies from 29 countries are participating in “ADEX 2026”. Leading defense industry companies from Turkey, Israel, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Spain, the Czech Republic, and other countries are showcasing their products and technologies. Belarus, the Czech Republic, Israel, Italy, Turkey, and Slovakia are represented at the exhibition with national groups.
45 foreign military delegations from 33 countries also participated in the event.
The exhibition showcases land forces weapons, military aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles, electronic warfare systems, smart munitions, and modern technologies in cybersecurity.
Thus, ADEX 2026 has become one of the main international defense industry events hosted by Azerbaijan in terms of the scale of participants and exhibited products.
Parallel to ADEX, the “Securex Caspian 2026” – 15th International Exhibition for Internal Security, Protection and Rescue Equipment is also being held.
“Securex Caspian 2026” – the 15th jubilee International Exhibition for Internal Security, Protection and Rescue Equipment officially opened at the Baku Expo Center in parallel with the “ADEX-2026” defense exhibition. The event serves as a key regional platform for showcasing advanced technologies in internal security, emergency situations, border protection, and critical infrastructure protection.
These events were not limited to international meetings and exhibitions in individual fields. They also played an important role in promoting Baku on various global platforms and establishing new connections for foreign delegations, investors, tourists, and business circles.
In particular, the investment forum allowed for the presentation of Azerbaijan's economic opportunities and investment potential to international business circles, while the “Formula 1” Grand Prix increased tourist flow and international media attention to the country. Climate Week highlighted Azerbaijan's participation in the global climate agenda, and ADEX brought to the forefront international cooperation opportunities in the defense industry and military technologies.
