Limits have been applied to card-to-card transactions with bank cards in Azerbaijan since August 1.

Modern.az reports that, based on an agreement reached between the Central Bank of Azerbaijan and commercial banks, limits have been applied to card transactions ("card-to-card") in the country.

The limits have been applied to both the amount of funds transferred from card to card and the number of transfer operations, as well as to the total number of cards.

New limits are also planned for the number of payment cards and electronic money accounts, and the use of electronic wallets.

However, the main limits of public interest are related to card-to-card transfers.

Thus, it is brought to the attention of customers who are cardholders that as of August 1, 2026, certain changes are being applied to card transactions within the framework of measures implemented to strengthen security and transparency in the field of digital payments.

Thus, it is possible to carry out a maximum of 5 transactions per day for card deposits and card-to-card transfers. This means that a cardholder can make 5 transfers and receive 5 payments with their card every day.

Although a limit has been placed on the number of daily card transactions, there is no limit on the daily transaction amount. Instead, a monthly limit of 20,000 manats has been set for the total amount of card-to-card transfers.

Transactions carried out by a bank customer between their own cards are not subject to these restrictions, meaning no limit has been placed on these transactions.

It should be recalled that the terms prepared for card transactions were presented to the members of the Azerbaijan Banks Association and the Azerbaijan Fintex Association a few days ago.

On the other hand, according to the new rules, the number of payment cards and electronic wallets is also limited. Thus, 2 electronic wallets can be used for manat and 1 electronic wallet for each foreign currency.

There are several reasons for applying limits to card-to-card transfers. The position of the government and the Central Bank is that these limits primarily aim to increase transparency and reduce fraud. On the other hand, the new rules serve to prevent tax evasion and illegal gambling.

It should be noted that only Azer Turk Bank has issued an official statement regarding this decision. Other banks have not warned customers about this. (Fed.az)
