Russia's 102nd military base in Gyumri, Armenia, has come to the fore as a possible military target amid the Ukraine-Russia war.

Modern.az reports that the discussions are based on the idea that the base is an important object in terms of the activities of Russian military forces in the region and constitutes a part of Moscow's military capabilities in the South Caucasus.

According to the claims, if it is determined that the base directly or indirectly supports the military operations of the Russian army against Ukraine with logistics, supply and other military capabilities, it is possible for Kyiv to evaluate it as an object of military importance. This raises questions about the future consideration of the base among possible targets.

The possibility of the expansion of the geography of the Russia-Ukraine war brings new security scenarios to the agenda for the South Caucasus as well. Especially against the background of Russia's military presence in Armenia, the base located in Gyumri is considered one of Moscow's main military strongholds in the region.

The 102nd Russian military base is located in Gyumri, the second largest city of Armenia. The base includes military aviation and other military units. For this reason, the object is of strategic importance not only in terms of Armenia-Russia relations, but also in terms of the security system of the South Caucasus as a whole.

Ukraine's use of long-range strikes against Russia's military infrastructure during the war draws additional attention to this issue. If concrete evidence emerges in the future that Russia's military facilities in Armenia were used in operations against Ukraine, how those facilities will be evaluated by Kyiv may become a separate topic of discussion.
