Schools were closed in parts of India's Uttar Pradesh state, including the capital Lucknow, on September 28, due to heavy flooding and landslides. Rescue teams evacuated people from flood zones to safer places.
Modern.az reports with reference to foreign media that according to officials on Monday, at least 81 people have died in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh as a result of days of heavy rains and floods.
The state government said that 46 people were injured and more than 1,000 houses were damaged as a result of three days of heavy rains causing floods in several districts. Residents were advised to avoid unnecessary movement in flooded areas, as well as to stay away from rivers, ditches and water channels with fast currents.
According to officials, the floods also affected the eastern state of Odisha, where more than 75,000 people were evacuated to safer areas.
In neighboring Nepal, according to the country's natural disaster management agency, 21 people died and 5 residents went missing due to weather-related incidents between Thursday and Sunday. 194 houses were damaged as a result of floods and landslides.
Nepal is trying to overcome the consequences of the devastating floods in August, which caused the death of more than 1,400 people and the disappearance of approximately 6,000 people.
