Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev announced that some relatives of those killed in the AZAL Airlines plane crash near Aktau have already received the necessary payments.
Modern.az reports with reference to Kazakh media that he noted that for some families the issue remained in the courts, because it was important to legally determine who had the right to receive compensation. Bozumbayev noted that insurance companies in Azerbaijan and Russia are ready to make payments after the relevant court decisions.
He emphasized that all passengers, regardless of their citizenship, should receive compensation. According to him, Kazakh agencies are in close contact with the Azerbaijani side and ensure that there is no discrimination in the payment process.
Bozumbayev added that the delays are not related to the rejection of payments, but to legal procedures for determining the recipients of compensation.
It should be recalled that the crash of an Embraer 190 passenger plane belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines, flying from Baku to Grozny, occurred on December 25, 2024. The plane was shot down by air defense systems while flying over Russian territory. Later, the crew decided to land in Aktau, Kazakhstan, but crashed near that city. Of the 67 people on board (62 citizens of Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan), 38 passengers and crew members died in the accident, and 29 people were injured.
