In the first half of 2026, Yerevan was the most expensive city in the South Caucasus, while Baku was the most affordable.

Modern.az reports that according to calculations based on data from the "Numbeo and Livingcost" platforms, Yerevan recorded the highest indicators among the region's capitals in terms of rent, food, and utility costs. Baku, on the other hand, stood out with the lowest costs across all major categories.

According to the information, the highest price for long-term apartment rental was recorded in Yerevan. The monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the city center of the Armenian capital was estimated at approximately $760, in Tbilisi at $700, and in Baku at $550.

Yerevan also ranked first for the food basket. The cost of a basic monthly food basket for one person was approximately $240 in Yerevan, $215 in Tbilisi, and $180 in Baku. The calculation includes milk and dairy products, bread, rice, potatoes, onions, eggs, local cheese, meat, as well as fruits and vegetables.

In terms of utility costs, Baku was also considered the most affordable city. The monthly utility cost for an 85 square meter apartment and internet was approximately $80 in Baku, $103 in Tbilisi, and $138 in Yerevan. It is stated that subsidies applied to gas and electricity in Baku contribute to lower utility costs.

The study notes that while Yerevan and Tbilisi are similar in food prices, Baku stands out for its particularly cheaper seasonal vegetables, bread, eggs, and other essential products. This is explained by Azerbaijan's broader domestic agricultural production.

Thus, a comparison of rent, food, and utility costs for the first half of 2026 shows that Yerevan is the most expensive capital in the South Caucasus, while Baku is the most affordable.
