One of the most notable meetings of Turkish and world media was held in London. Journalists from Turkey and various countries gathered at the 2nd International Media Friendship Awards ceremony organized by the Global Journalists Council (KGK).
Modern.az reports that Ayten Abbaslı, the London correspondent of the Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC), was among the journalists who received awards at the event.
London, the capital of England, became the center of media attention on October 1.
The 2nd International Media Friendship Awards ceremony organized by the Global Journalists Council took place at Arundel House in London. Gunel Salimova, First Secretary of the Azerbaijani Embassy in England, Osman Koray Ertaş, Turkish Ambassador in London, Hasan Ulusoy, Turkish Consul General in London, Aysan Mullahasan Atılgan, London representative of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Mehmet Ali Dim, Chairman of KGK, Elshad Eyvazlı, Chairman of KGK Foreign Media Council, as well as numerous Turkish and foreign journalists participated in the event.
One of the main goals of the event was to develop relations between Turkish journalists working in various countries and local and foreign media representatives. The KGK leadership announced that foreign journalists working on the Turkic world were also awarded within the framework of the ceremony. The London meeting attracted attention as an international journalistic meeting bringing together various media spaces. Before the awards ceremony, an exhibition titled “Pages opened to friendship: Turkish-English relations from documents to life” was opened at the event.
Historical newspaper pages and diplomatic documents shedding light on various periods of relations between Turkey and Great Britain were displayed at the exhibition. The fact that the exhibition was prepared from the archive of collector Prof. Dr. Osman Kubilay Gül was also one of the highlights of the event.
KGK Chairman Mehmet Ali Dim stated that one of the goals of the event is to contribute to friendly relations through media and strengthen ties among journalists. According to him, the exhibition is planned to be displayed at the London Yunus Emre Institute and in Manchester in the future.
The ceremony held in London was also of special importance for the Azerbaijani media. Ayten Abbaslı, AZERTAC's London correspondent, was among the awarded journalists.
Among the awardees were Behlül Çetinkaya, Anadolu Agency's London correspondent, Deborah Bonetti, director of the Foreign Journalists Association in Great Britain and London correspondent of Italy's Il Giorno newspaper, Palestinian journalist Ahmed Alnaouq, and Deborah Field, brand manager of Hello! magazine.
The KGK delegation's visit to London is not limited to the awards ceremony. A delegation of approximately 30 people arrived in London on September 29. On the first day of the program, a meeting hosted by KGK UK representative Vatan Öz was held. Later, a friendship dinner was organized with the participation of journalists.
On September 30, a reception hosted by Turkish Ambassador to London Osman Koray Ertaş in honor of the delegation was held. The delegation also held meetings with representatives of the Turkish diaspora in London, Turkish-origin parliamentarians, and media representatives.
The main program of the visit concluded on October 1 with the exhibition and the 2nd International Media Friendship Awards ceremony. One of the notable aspects of the London event was the meeting of journalists working in different countries in the same venue. The event in London was a continuation of KGK's international projects. The Council had previously held various media meetings, panels, and seminars in Nicosia, Baku, Berlin, Tbilisi, Moscow, and Tashkent. In 2025, the first International Media Friendship Awards ceremony was organized in New York, USA. The London event was the second phase of this international project.
