The news of the death of Azerbaijan's former ambassador to Georgia was the reason for the preparation of this article in the section.

Azerbaijan and Georgia were allied republics within the former USSR for many years.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on November 18, 1992.

In 1995, Georgia's embassy in Azerbaijan began its activities, and a year later, in 1996, Azerbaijan's embassy in that country. Also, in 2009, Azerbaijan's Consulate General was opened in Batumi, Georgia, and since 2013, Georgia's Consulate General in Ganja.

The first extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Georgia was Hajan Hajiyev (Hajisoy). He headed the diplomatic corps of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Georgia from 1996 to 2004.
Hajan Hajiyev was born on March 19, 1946, in the ancient Garachop region of Borchali - in the village of Keshali in the Sagarejo district of the Kakheti region of present-day Georgia.
In 1963, he entered the Azerbaijan State Oil and Chemistry Institute (now Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University). After completing his education in 1969, he began his career as an operator and engineer at the Garadagh oil fields administration. Later, his path led him through diplomatic service.
Hajan Hajiyev passed away on July 27, 2026.

Our second ambassador who served in Georgia was Ramiz Hasanov. Ramiz Hasanov was born on August 20, 1961, in the village of Alget (Masjidli Gorarkhi) in Marneuli, Georgia. He studied at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations from 1978 to 1983.
From April 9, 2004, to December 14, 2005, he served as the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Georgia. He currently continues his diplomatic activities in Spain.

Doctor of Law, Professor Namiq Aliyev served as Azerbaijan's ambassador to Georgia from 2004 to 2011.
Namiq Hasan oglu Aliyev was born on May 19, 1956, in Baku. His parents are from Tbilisi.
N. Aliyev graduated from the Faculty of Law of Azerbaijan State University in 1978. In 1984, he defended his Ph.D. in Law in Moscow. In 1992, he defended his doctorate in philosophy, and in 2004, his doctorate in law in Tbilisi.
In 2006, he was appointed extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Azerbaijan to Georgia. He was recalled on April 20, 2011. Later, he also served as ambassador to Moldova. He is currently engaged in scientific and pedagogical activities.

Azer Tofig oglu Huseyn served as the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Georgia between 2011 and 2016. He later headed Azerbaijan's diplomatic corps in Japan.

Dursun Hasanov held the position of extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Georgia from December 2016 to August 2020.
He was born in the village of Alget (Masjidli Gorarkhi) in Marneuli, Georgia. Dursun Hasanov is the son of Ayvaz Hasanov, a state and party figure of the Georgian SSR and a deputy of the Supreme Soviet. Incidentally, Dursun Hasanov is the brother of Ramiz Hasanov, whom we mentioned above - Azerbaijan's second ambassador to Georgia.
Dursun Hasanov died suddenly of a heart attack at his home in Baku on June 12 this year.

Since 2020, Faiq Guliyev has been serving as Azerbaijan's ambassador to Georgia.
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador F. Guliyev was born in Baku in 1977.
He received his bachelor's degree from the Faculty of International Law and International Relations of Baku State University in 1993-1997, and his master's degree in 1999-2001.
