Yemen's Houthis are likely to launch a ground invasion of Saudi Arabia.
Modern.az reports, citing Arab media, that against the backdrop of escalating tensions with Saudi Arabia in recent days, there have been claims that the Houthis are preparing for a larger-scale attack on the kingdom's territory. The Houthis have not officially announced that they are preparing for a ground operation in Saudi Arabia.
According to claims, the Houthis are planning a possible ground operation against Saudi Arabia and are preparing to advance deeper into the country's territory.
Against the backdrop of the tension, missile and drone attacks have already been recorded in Saudi Arabia. In recent days, the Houthis have announced that they have targeted military and energy infrastructure facilities in Saudi territory, including Riyadh. The Saudi side, however, stated that some missiles and UAVs were shot down by air defense systems.
One of the particularly worrying points is the mention of Mecca in the context of recent events. Saudi officials announced on September 15 that a UAV, reportedly belonging to the Houthis, was intercepted near Mecca. The Houthis, however, denied the accusation of targeting Mecca.
Along with Mecca, possible risks related to the security of Medina and other holy areas are also presented as one of the main concerns increasing the scale of tension in the region.
The US State Department has also raised the travel warning level for Saudi Arabia and a number of Middle Eastern countries. Washington states that there is a risk of missile and UAV attacks by Iran and the Houthis in the country.
Previously, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman discussed the issue of military actions against the Houthis in a phone call with US President Donald Trump. According to Reuters, Washington stated at that stage that it did not intend to join a direct military operation against the Houthis, but could provide support in intelligence and targeting.
