Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezayi, has threatened neighboring countries that join the economic blockade against his country.
Modern.az reports that Rezayi stated that Tehran would take retaliatory measures if the US obstructs Iran's trade and financial relations.
According to him, Iran can strike US companies operating in the region, including drilling and trading enterprises:
"We will respond to the blow the US has dealt to the Iranian economy with a blow to its economy. The principle of blow for blow will be applied."
Rezayi also called on neighboring countries not to cooperate with the US. He stated that restrictions could be imposed on the passage of ships of countries participating in Iran's economic blockade through the Strait of Hormuz:
"If a neighboring country cooperates with the Americans in the economic blockade of Iran, we will punish its ships in the Strait of Hormuz. We will impose restrictions on the movement and passage of ships, as well as some of their activities."
The Iranian official claimed that the US economy is weakening, emphasizing that countries in the region will remain neighbors in the future.
Rezayi called on Persian Gulf countries to unite for security and economic cooperation, increase mutual investments, and consider the possibilities of creating a single market and a common currency.
