US President Donald Trump will discuss the Iran issue and trade as the main topic in his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Modern.az reports that Trump said this to journalists before his visit.
Trump noted that he will have a long and detailed discussion with Xi Jinping:
"I think we'll have a long conversation about that. Frankly, I think he's in a pretty good mood. There's no problem with the blockade. They're buying a lot of oil from that region. We haven't had any problems."
When asked about the importance of China's intervention in the Iran issue, the US president said that Washington does not need it:
"I don't think we need any help from them on the Iran issue. We're going to win anyway. Their navy has been destroyed. Their air force has been destroyed. All elements of the war machine have been put out of action."
Trump emphasized that there are many issues to be discussed with Xi Jinping and that the Iran topic will not be the main agenda:
"Either we'll reach an agreement, or they'll be destroyed. In both cases, we'll win. The main focus of the meeting with the Chinese leader will be on trade relations."
Touching upon the Russia-Ukraine war, the US president said that the conflict is close to ending and that a solution will be found between Moscow and Kyiv in the near future.
In response to a question about the possibility of extending the easing of sanctions imposed on Russia's oil sector, Trump emphasized that all necessary steps will be taken to prevent an energy crisis.
The US president added that both he and Xi Jinping are looking forward to the upcoming meeting:
"This will be a great meeting. Xi Jinping is my friend."
It should be noted that the delegation accompanying Trump included leaders from various fields, including Tim Cook, Elon Musk, and Jensen Huang.
It should be recalled that Donald Trump's state visit to China will continue until May 15. This will be the first visit of a US president to China since 2017.
