The demand for social housing in France remains high, with approximately 3 million people currently on the waiting list.

Modern.az reports that this was stated by Lionel Causse, a member of the French National Assembly, at a round table titled “Parliamentarians: Translating Urban Commitments into National Action - The Parliamentary Path to Housing for All” within the 13th session of the World Urban Forum held in Baku.

He noted that social housing in France is built on a long-term financing model:

“We finance social housing with funds accumulated by French citizens in their “Livret A” savings accounts. The volume of this fund exceeds 400 billion euros.”

The MP emphasized that the work carried out in this direction in the French parliament is mainly focused on two areas:

“The first goal is to control land prices. Various tools are used for this. We want to reduce net artificial land use to zero by 2050.”

According to him, the other priority is the construction of buildings with low carbon emissions and adapted to climate change:

“A construction policy that takes into account the effects of global warming is being implemented. A number of laws in this area have already been adopted, and others will be adopted in the coming months and years.”

The member of the French parliament also added that the goal is to provide accessible and decent housing for all social groups.
