In 2025, 26 cases of maternal mortality were recorded in Azerbaijan, with this indicator being 27.1 per 100 thousand live births.

According to the information, the regional breakdown for 2025 shows that out of the 26 recorded cases, 10 occurred in urban areas and 16 in rural areas. Thus, a total of 4 cases were recorded in Baku, with 2 of them in Sabunchu district, and 1 each in Surakhani and Yasamal districts. No such cases were recorded in other districts of Baku.
A total of 4 maternal deaths were recorded in the Nakhchivan economic region. Of these cases, 1 occurred in Nakhchivan city, 1 in Babek district, and 2 in Kangarli district. 1 such case was recorded in the Absheron-Khizi economic region, and this case occurred in Sumgayit city. 1 maternal death was also recorded in the Ganja-Dashkasan economic region, and this case falls to Ganja city.
A total of 4 maternal deaths were recorded in the Karabakh economic region. Of these cases, 1 occurred in Aghjabadi district, and 3 in Barda district. 1 case was recorded in the Gazakh-Tovuz economic region, and this incident was recorded in Gazakh district. In the Guba-Khachmaz economic region, a total of 2 cases were recorded, with 1 person each from Guba and Gusar districts.
A total of 4 maternal death cases were recorded in the Lankaran-Astara economic region. Of these cases, 2 occurred in Jalilabad district, 1 in Lankaran district, and 1 in Yardimli district. 1 case was recorded in the Central Aran economic region, and this incident was recorded in Kurdamir district. 2 maternal deaths were recorded in the Mil-Mughan economic region, and both cases fall to Imishli district. 1 case was recorded in the Shaki-Zagatala economic region, and this incident occurred in Shaki district. 1 maternal death was also recorded in the Shirvan-Salyan economic region, and this case was recorded in Hajigabul district.
No maternal death cases were recorded in the Mountainous Shirvan and East Zangazur economic regions during 2025.
It should be noted that looking at the indicators of previous years, 20 maternal deaths were recorded in each of 2020 and 2021, and this figure was 18 in 2022. In 2023, there was a sharp increase to 33 people, and in 2024, 29 maternal deaths were recorded.
For information, statistics include deaths occurring during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.
