Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho's decision to substitute Arda Güler in the second half of the match against Real Betis (1:2) has sparked discussions in the football community.
Modern.az reports that although the Turkish midfielder was one of Real Madrid's most active players in the match, he was substituted in the middle of the second half. Diamonde came on in his place.
According to the Spanish publication "AS", Mourinho himself admitted that this decision might seem unfair from the outside. The Portuguese coach attributed the main reason for substituting Güler to the possibility of him receiving a second yellow card.
According to Mourinho, there was a possibility that Betis players might try to provoke Güler into a foul at the beginning of the second half to get him penalized. Therefore, the coach preferred to take the player out of the game without taking any risks.
