Former employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ashkhen Aleksanyan, has been sentenced to 2 years in prison.
Modern.az reports with reference to Armenian media, this was stated by her lawyer Abgar Poghosyan.
He also stated that the defense intends to appeal to the Court of Appeal to cancel the pre-trial detention measure. Previously, the Yerevan court acquitted her of treason.
However, the case was reclassified: the charge of treason against her was replaced with abuse of official powers. The maximum penalty for this article is up to 4 years.
It should be recalled that Ashkhen Aleksanyan was suspected of spying for Azerbaijan. During the inspection of her computers, some secret documents were discovered. It was alleged that Aleksanyan transferred those secret documents to her Azerbaijani lover.
