One person has died and 36 others have been injured as a result of an explosion at a shipyard in New York.

Most of the victims are firefighters and emergency service personnel. A second explosion occurred during the extinguishing of a fire at the facility. As a result, several fire service employees and several civilians sustained serious injuries, and one of the injured civilians later died.
The incident was recorded at a ship repair workshop in Staten Island. According to the New York Fire Department, a call was received around 3:30 PM local time about two workers being trapped inside.
