The country may consider alternative suppliers if there are problems with gas supplies from Russia or if prices increase.

Modern.az reports that this was stated by Mesrop Mesropyan, chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia.

According to him, if such a situation arises, it will be natural to look for alternative markets and resources:

"Alternatives exist in neighboring countries - Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Iran and other states that sell gas and have the infrastructure to transport it," Mesropyan said during a briefing.

The chairman noted that there are currently no official talks or any notifications regarding an increase in gas prices. The terms of the existing contract remain in force until 2027.

Mesropyan emphasized that the increase in gas prices could affect the country's energy system. This is because a significant part of electricity in Armenia is produced at thermal power plants (TPPs). However, the development of solar energy can partially mitigate possible negative effects.
