Two merchant ships collided off the coast of Silivri, Turkey.
Modern.az reports that the incident occurred on September 2, at approximately 03:00 local time, 18 nautical miles south of the coast of Silivri.
According to the Istanbul Governorship, the Turkish-flagged ship “ALSU”, traveling from Kocaeli to Aliağa, and the ship “TUĞBERK İMAMOĞLU”, moving from the port of Iskenderun to Karadeniz Ereğli, collided for unknown reasons.
During the initial investigation, no visible damage was found on the “ALSU” ship. However, it was not possible to establish contact with the other ship and its 10 crew members.
Numerous maritime vessels from the Turkish General Directorate of Coastal Safety and the Marmara and Straits Command of the Coast Guard, as well as a helicopter, were dispatched to the scene.
Search and rescue operations by sea and air are ongoing to find the second ship and its crew members. The cause of the collision is not yet known.
