Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez criticized the position of a number of European Union countries regarding the migrant crisis in Ceuta.

Modern.az reports that he accused those countries of a "selfish approach" and demanded urgent talks at the level of interior ministers.

In a letter to EU leaders, Sanchez said that "in the current international situation, the European Union cannot allow such a selfish, polarizing and illegal reaction." He also called for the interior ministers of the 27 member states to meet as soon as possible.

According to Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska, at least 67 people have died trying to cross the border between Morocco and Ceuta.

Most of the migrants who previously entered Ceuta en masse have already returned to Morocco by Saturday. According to the authorities, tens of thousands of people crossed the border, many of them swimming by sea to bypass border barriers.

It should be noted that 22 of the 27 EU countries initiated an urgent video conference of interior ministers. In a joint letter, they called for a coordinated response to the crisis and measures to prevent new uncontrolled border crossings.
