Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he had a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump and that the parties agreed to meet in New York.
Modern.az reports that Zelensky informed about this on his "Telegram" channel. The Ukrainian leader called the conversation important and stated that a number of issues were discussed. Other sources also confirmed that the parties agreed to meet in New York.
"We agreed on a meeting, and this meeting can change a lot. There is diplomatic dynamics," Zelensky noted.
The Ukrainian President also thanked Donald Trump's special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner for their visit to Kyiv. According to Zelensky, during talks with US representatives, issues of advancing the peace process, possible de-escalation steps, energy and food security, as well as the protection of people were discussed.
Zelensky emphasized that the peace process is currently the main priority and stated that they are working on "serious steps" with the US team.
He also thanked Trump for signing the sanctions law on Russia and Iran, prepared at the initiative of Lindsey Graham. Donald Trump signed that law on September 18. The document expands sanctions against Russia and allows for the imposition of additional tariffs against large buyers of Russian energy resources.
